Satellite services are used in remote areas where it is not possible to provide fixed cabling or provide the Fixed Wireless solution. Each of these services requires a different type of physical WAN connection which will determine the most suitable DrayTek router.
This is listed in the table below:. NBN Service. WAN Port Required. Suitable Router Models. Fixed Wireless. Satellite Sky Muster. Many installations have PSTN phone systems which are connected to copper cabling. The service provider will in most cases supply a very basic wireless router which provides connectivity to the NBN as well as the VoIP service retaining the existing phone numbers.
For most domestic users, the solution provided by the service provider will be adequate. However, for businesses this solution will not be suitable, especially if they need advanced business features such as VPN, firewall security, user management, Quality of Service etc.
This will require replacing the basic router supplied by the service provider with a business grade router such as one from the DrayTek range.
One problem that arises is that if the user wants to retain the existing phone number, which will be important for many businesses, they are forced to keep using the ISP supplied router.Make sure you've disconnected all devices such as telephones, modems including ADSL filters and fax machines from your telephone wall sockets. Still need to get in touch. Skip to main content. Tell me more.Thank you. Your reply has been very helpful, but I'm still confused about one thing As part of the Telstra package, they are meant to supply me with a SmartModem Gen 2.
From your answers, I gather I must use that to connect to their device and then plug the D-Link into that. Is that correct? See SIP page of manual. The benefit of the D-Link is you can customize more settings and some people claim the WiFi performance is better.
Thank you very much for your reply. Now, with your answer and those of Jupiter, I've got a better handle on it. This should be very interesting.
At present my ADSL is hard wired to 3 different users via a Netgear modem and a StarServe system that is wired throughout the house both for data and voice. I have been using 2 seperate land lines, one for telephone and the other limited to data I certainly won't need 2 land lines any more and I wonder if I really need any since every member in the household is mobile provided. Mostly I've used the land line to phone relatives overseas at ridiculously low costbut I guess that can even be done via mobile.
I still haven't received the Telstra modem and technician is due on Thursday. I wonder what the technician will say when he looks at the way things presently are hooked up. Thank you everyone for your replies. Mercifully, everything, including the land line telephone, worked. The speed of the NBN connection was much slower than Telstra advertised I will stick with the Gen2 modem for the time being and see if it suits. Turn on suggestions. Jupiter Level The Singularity. In response to OzEvenstar.Firstly, you need a working NBN Service. As we all know the Telstra routers are very basic, and if you wish to retain your existing router setup telstra will not support you with VOIP settings or help.
There are many solutions out there regarding Bridge-mode etc, but these will NOT allow you to retain your voice component of the service. This is good. Now while this is connected, browse to the modem on Because the Telstra modem has already registered and setup your telephony, it will now call out to the Telstra SIP Servers and register your phone THROUGH your other modem disable firewall etc on your equipment first to ensure it all works. We did recently find an interesting amendment for that article.
Calls will come in, but wont ring, and go straight to voicemail you can dial in and collect them from voicemail though no problemsyet you can continue to make outbound calls with no issues.
